Pheu Thai Party chairman Chavalit Yongchaiyudh on Tuesday tried to quell coup rumours by arguing the political situation, though chaotic, did not deteriorate to warrant the military intervention.
Chavalit voiced optimism that the political terbulence would pass once the high court handed down the verdict on the Bt76 billion in impounded assets of ex-premier Thaksin Shinawatra.
"I believe normalcy would resume after the completion of the judicial review on this case," he said.
He said he was confident the red shirts would understand and accept the verdict, dismissing concern for the eruption of violence.
